How FUE Hair Transplants Work
How FUE
Hair Transplants Work
Follicular Unit Excision (FUE)
FUE is a hair transplant technique in which individual hair follicles are extracted from the donor area (typically the back or sides of the scalp) and transplanted into areas experiencing hair loss.
Steps of FUE:
Donor Area Preparation: Hair is trimmed to facilitate follicle extraction.
Local Anaesthesia: Applied to both the donor and recipient areas to help ensure patient comfort during the procedure.
Follicle Extraction: Using a specialised micro-punch tool, follicles are carefully harvested one by one.
Recipient Site Creation: Tiny incisions are made in the recipient area to accommodate the grafts.
Graft Placement: Extracted follicles are implanted to follow the natural hair growth pattern.
All surgical procedures at Cosmetic Surgery of the Royal Liver Building are currently performed under local anaesthetic within our CQC-registered facilities.

Transplants procedure?
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is an implantation technique that may be used as part of a Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) hair transplant procedure to assist with graft placement in cases of hair thinning and hair loss. It involves the use of a specialised implanter pen to place harvested hair follicles into the recipient area.
This technique allows follicles to be placed without pre-made recipient site incisions. It provides the surgeon with control over placement and angle during graft implantation. DHI is used as part of a clinically led approach to follicle placement, with donor hair harvested using standard FUE methods and all aspects of the procedure managed under clinical supervision.
Steps of DHI:
Donor Area Preparation & Anaesthesia: The donor area is prepared and local anaesthesia is applied to support patient comfort.
Follicle Extraction: Individual follicles are harvested using a micro-punch tool as part of the FUE procedure.
Implantation: Using a DHI implanter pen, follicles are placed into the recipient area under the direction of the surgical team.

Afterward, the surgeon may bandage the head and provide antibiotics and pain relief as part of the aftercare plan, where clinically appropriate. This forms part of a structured recovery process designed to support patient comfort.
Hair transplants may be suitable for individuals experiencing hair loss or thinning. Whether it is a receding hairline, thinning mid-parting, or crown hair loss, this surgical procedure can help address areas of reduced density and support improved hair appearance.
